Bacterial Vaginitis Cures – How I Cured BV Once And For All

Bacterial Vaginitis (aka bacterial vaginosis) is the most common type of vaginitis in women, and occurs when there is an imbalance between “good” and “bad” bacteria in the vagina. It is a remarkably common condition (in fact BV is more common than thrush), yet I would argue that the common medical wisdom when it comes bacterial vaginitis cures is not nearly as advanced as it could be.

Let me ask you if this sounds familiar:  One day you start to experience some symptoms – for me it was the itching, followed by some very odd odours about a week later – which you know are not right and that something is awry. You book a time to see your doctor or maybe get on the Internet to do some preliminary research.

Either way, you end up in your GP’s waiting room sooner or later. He makes his diagnosis (yes, you’ve got BV) and prescribes a course of antibiotics which you faithfully take, thinking that once the prescription has run its course you’ll be done with the matter. Except you’re not …

Because the infection keeps returning as do you to your doctor to get another prescription. And this merry process continues for another few rounds until you realise the inherent madness in what your’e doing (you remember that definition of madness: doing what you’ve always done yet expecting a different result?) It is then that you stop to ask: Hang on – is antibiotics really the best way to go here?

Here’s what I know now that I didn’t know then: Antibiotics are indiscriminate in the bacteria that they kill. They can kill “good” bacteria (lactobacillus) as well as the “bad” bacteria that they have been designed to kill. Prolonged use of these medicines can just put you on a rollercoaster where your vagina’s PH levels never naturally return to where they’re meant to be.

I know I’m not the only woman to have been faced with this dilemma – because once I’d woken up to the fact that unless I did something differently nothing was going to change, I got onto some health forums and discovered that there were plenty more like me in the same boat.

So it was then that I started looking for a natural remedy for bacterial vaginosis – believing that at that stage, I’d already had sufficient experience of medicinal bacterial vaginitis cures.

This terrain was even trickier than visiting my doctor because there’s a lot of information out there and it can be a little hard to discern the quality information from the guff. But I guess I can say that the sisterhood came to my rescue here, because there seemed to be plenty of people talking about Bacterial Vaginosis Freedom on those forums that I visited.

I visited Bacterial Vaginosis Freedom and was immediately struck by how similar Elena Peterson’s (the author) story sounded to mine. Here too was a woman frustrated by the conventional technique of curing bacterial vaginitis; who in the end had taken matters into her own hands, done the research and eventually developed a natural cure for bacterial vaginitis which can be done in 3 easy steps and brings results in around 72 hours.

Home Cures For BV

There are some that attest (and I’m one of them) that conventional medicine’s treatment of bacterial vaginosis may actually be worse than the disease itself. It’s for this reason that there is a burgeoning interest in home cures for BV. In this post we’ll look at the inherent problems in taking antibiotics as a BV cure as well as some of the more popular home remedies for BV.

Many physicians first line of defense in treating BV  is to  prescribe antibiotics which are either taken orally or inserted directly into your vagina. For many women, this not only does this not  solve the problem but can actually lead to adverse side effects such as an upset stomach, lethargy, a burning sensation in the esophagus and depression. In addition, if you’re using antibiotics for any length of time, they may soften your tooth enamel, damage your intestinal walls and  place undue stress on your kidneys and liver.

And here’s the real ironic kicker – using antibiotics can lead to a Candida yeast overgrowth as well. Antibiotics indiscriminately kill all bacteria, both the good and the bad. So while your antibiotics prescription maybe killing off the “bad guys” as it were, it is  also targeting and killing the “good guys” too.

Long-term use of antibiotics may also increase the acidic condition of your entire body. This in itself allows yeast to multiple and thrive. Yeast infections are not confined to your vagina. They can also spread to your intestines causing  digestive problems and an overabundance of gases.

Which brings us to the topic at hand: what are the most effective home cures for BV?

A quick search of the Internet for home remedies for bacterial vaginosis, throws up a large selection. Douching regularly is a commonly touted remedy. But BEWARE! Too frequent douching  can disrupt the normal flora of the vagina and can in fact be a contributing factor to bacterial vaginosis.

Active yoghurt is another popular home BV cure. It is very important that you use a yoghurt that has an active supply of lactobacillusacidophilus and L. bifidus. The goal is to restore normal ph in the vagina. It can be taken orally or inserted into the vagina. Acidophilus capsules or powder are also available whihc can be taken orally. Tampons that are soaked in yogurt have also been shown to have some temporary success.

Using a well diluted solution of boric acid is recommended on some sites. The aim is to restore appropriate acidity in the vagina. However you need to be aware that  boric acid can also cause tissue damage to mucous membrane which line the vagina. Vinegar and water are also high on the list for home remedies for bacterial vaginosis, though the jury seems to be out on the effectiveness on this particular treatment.

Homeopathic Cures For Bacterial Vaginosis

Bacterial Vaginosis, one of the most common vaginal infections women suffer from is caused by a proliferation of bacteria in the vagina leading to an imblance in the internal environment which can lead to symptoms such as foul-smelling discharge, burning, itching and pain during intercourse. There are homeopathic cures for bacterial vaginosis – the ingeredients of which will be dependent upon your particular needs.

Before embarking on a homeopathic cure for bacterial vaginosis you will need to have a Homeopathic doctor assess your entire physical and psychological state and decide on an appropriate course of treatment. People go to see homeopaths for all sorts of ailments and conditions and there is no need for to feel uncomfortable just because Bacterial Vaginosis falls under the urogenital umbrella. Trust me, a homeopath is a professional practitioner who has seen and heard it all before.

Homeopathy revolves around the law of similars or “like cures like.” The treatments used are focused predominantly on the signs and symptoms present and not the disease as a whole. It is therefore possible that you will be given several kinds of treatment for a single disease depending on the symptoms present. Preparations are usually made up of heavily diluted ingredients that would usually, in their original concentrated form, cause symptoms similar to those being suffered. This in turn stimulates your body to form its own natural defenses against the fungal intruders.

Whilst you should not embark on a bacterial vaginosis homeopathic treatment until you’ve consulted with a qualified homeopath, the following list indicates some of the ingredients that may be used and the symptoms that they are quite often matched with:

Creosote. – Often used when the bacterial vaginosis leads to a thin watery discharge with a fishy odour. Another symptom indicating Creosote as the appropriate remedy is an itchy swollen vulva.

Sepia – Is often used when used the discharge is white and milky rather than watery and is accompanied by a burning sensation.

Nitric Acid – will often be the remedy of choice  if there is a lot of greenish discharge after menses has occurred. If it occurs before menses then carb veg. would be the more likely treatment. If the discharge is green, painful and happens at anytime then the better choice would be Bovista.

Argentums Metallicum – can be appropriate when the discharge is grey.

If your condition is chronic or you suffer extremely unpleasant or irritating symptoms then homeopathic remedies for bacterial vaginosis may not be appropriate for you. Homeopathic remedies can take some time to be effective and patience is necessary. Bacterial vaginosis homeopathic treatments are better suited to women whose symptoms are mild or non-existent. Nonetheless the following homeopathic BV cures have been known to work in chronic cases:

Pustilla – can be used in chronic cases where the discharge is yellow and thick and the lining of the vaginal wall is wearing away. Pustilla will often be recommended as a remedyif  the condition worsens just before menses and the pain is accompanied by a burning stinging sensation.

Calcarea Carb -  is also used for chronic bacterial vaginosis.

Homeopaths will often differentiate between patients by looking  at the physical characteristics of the affected person. Someone who is overweight with pale skin is more likely to respond to calcarea carb than to pustilla. Pregnant women with this problem, however, would be better of with pustilla.

The argument for and against Homeopathic cures is extensive. Many sceptics criticize that the preparations are so heavily diluted that no trace of the original ingredients remain. The practice has been around since the end of the eighteenth century howevr and has been growing progressively in reputation. Ready-made or off-the-shelf Homeopathic preparations for treating bacterial vaginosis do exist but it is prudent for the sufferer to take the time to meet with a homeopath as the condition varies from woman to woman. It is essential to follow the directions for taking the treatment and you must complete the course.

Homeopathic cures for bacterial vaginosis are not prohibitively expensive and there have never been any reported adverse side effects. Considering the bad press that conventional medicine can quite often get, a homeopathic remedy for bacterial vaginosis might well be worth a try.
